School District Fremont RE-1 Student Conduct and Discipline Code Handbook The School District Fremont RE-1 annually publishes a Student Conduct & Discipline Code handbook as an addendum to student handbooks. Please refer to this handbook for policies on:
Caņon City High School School Philosophy The philosophy of Caņon City High School is to establish a meaningful learning environment for each student that will ensure the development of basic academic knowledge and skills that are necessary to participate effectively and contribute in todays world. The rules governing the operation of the school and governing student behavior reflect a basic respect of the rights of others and the responsibility of each individual to take advantage of the privilege to attend school.
Accidents Every accident in the school building, on school grounds or at school related activities must be reported to the sponsor in charge and/or the Activity Director.
Caņon City High School Alma Mater
Assemblies and Assembly Conduct Assemblies are part of the school day and students are required to attend. Students are to sit in the appropriate section. Persons on the program are to be accorded proper respect. Applause should be given at the proper time and in a proper way.
Bus Transportation All buses load and unload at the east side of the school. Riding the bus is a privilege and a service provided by the district which may be revoked at any time. If a student wishes to ride home on a bus not assigned to them, they must receive permission from the office. Permission also requires a note from the parent/guardian.
CCHS Student Identification & Activity Cards Each student will be provided with an identification card signifying membership to Caņon City High School. Students should carry the I.D. card with them as a means for school personnel to make positive identification if necessary.
An activity card is an addition to the students identification card that entitles the holder to free admission to all home athletic events, plays and other related school-sponsored activities; except fundraising and state sanctioned activities. The cost of the activity card is $15.
Dress Code All students are expected to be clean and neat in appearance and to dress appropriately at all times. Unkempt appearances must be corrected before returning to class. Extremes of any kind of fad or wearing apparel which calls undue attention to the person is not acceptable. Any clothing which by word, statement or graphic representation that is derogatory, demeaning, or taunting in nature which states or implies to incite or upset students or staff members is not acceptable. Students in violation of the dress code will be asked to correct the dress concern with the simplest solution at hand. If the student has to go home for a clothing change, an unexcused absence may be issued. Repeated dress code violations may result in suspension from school for dress code and insubordination issues.
Much attention has been drawn to schools about safe environments which is to be free of intimidation or harassment that comes either verbally, physically or visually. The standards outlined in this book are meant to do that and not intended to diminish personal taste or values. Extreme fads or expressions that detract from instruction represent a standard of inappro-priateness for school. Such types of dressings are attempts by individuals to incite others to react and to create an antagonistic confrontation. At that point the safety and welfare of the general school environment has been compromised.
Due Process Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 assures students and their parents of the right to inspect the students school records and to control the release of these records to others outside of school. Parents (or students over 18) may contact a counselor if they wish to inspect the students records.
Electronic and Sound Equipment Students shall leave pagers, cell phones, laser lights, and other electronic equipment, radios, CD/cassette players and walkmans, and sound equipment of any kind at home; they are prohibited at school during school hours. Such equipment are distractions in the classrooms and lockers are not secure. They will be confiscated and returned to parents. Important messages may be left in the school office for students to pick up.
Fire and Emergency Drills Drills at regular intervals are required by law and are important safety precautions for orderly evacuation of buildings. Instructions are posted in each room.
Internet and Computer Usage Use of the computers and of the Internet on an unsupervised basis is considered a privilege. For such use students must complete the Districts parent permission slip and return it to the front office where it will be kept on record. In the event of misuse of the computers, any software programs or INTERNET, unsupervised use of this technology will be removed from the student.
Library/Media Center Books may be loaned for a two week period. Each student is financially responsible when books are not returned. Students are welcome to view and listen to filmstrips, records, tapes, books, and microfiche to aid in their research assignments. The library should remain a quiet place for reading, research and study. A pass is required for admission to the library during class time.
Locker Information Lockers for coats and books will be assigned to all students through the Attendance Office. Switching lockers without consent from the office is prohibited. Students are responsible for general upkeep of the locker. The school will not be responsible for any materials missing from the locker; therefore, it is strongly suggested that valuables be left at home.
Note: Writing on lockers is considered under Juvenile Code 9.060.010 destroying or defacing property. Breaking into another students locker is defined as a third degree burglary and thus subject to criminal prosecution.
If items are stolen from your locker (or elsewhere), please report the theft to an assistant principal. If items are recovered, they may be identified and returned.
Students are assigned a locker for the purpose of ensuring a convenient receptacle for books, school items and personal belongings. Lockers shall remain, at all times, under the control and property of the school district. Student lockers may be searched by school officials any time there is reasonable cause. Police/D.O.C. dogs may be used. In the event illegal materials or items belonging to another party are found in the students locker, the school officials will use their judgment as to the disposition of the material and action to be taken concerning the student who was using the locker.
Military Recruitment Caņon City High School will not release students names to military recruiters unless a signed request by the student is given at the beginning of the school year.
