GEOGRAPHY - Geography students will become aware of the world in which they live. The course is outlined to include not only geographical knowledge and skill, but also political, economical, and social aspects. The course will present information in a way of thinking geographically about why and how the modern world influences student lives. The course’s blueprint is to encourage personal growth through the utilization of social concepts.

 

WORLD HISTORY - This course is a survey of the history of man and his world. The course will review the creation of civilization through the imperialist period leading into the twentieth century. The emphasis of the survey is to focus on the contributions that each time period in man’s history has given to our world leaders.

 

ECONOMICS - Economics is designed to examine the reasons for these headlines and others like them: Food Prices Rising, Gas Costs Soar, Cost of Living Up. The course will cover the basics of our free enterprise economy and the role of the individual consumer. Emphasis is on developing the skills necessary for becoming a successful consumer in current day America. Micro and Macro Economics will be covered.

 

U. S. HISTORY - (Prerequisite: Junior English Honors Only) This is a required course for 11th grade students enrolled in Junior Honors English. It is a study of the development of the United States, the people, the places and events that have shaped our country.

 

PSYCHOLOGY - This course is an introduction to the study of human behavior. The student will gain an understanding of the basics of psychology and gain a better understanding of themselves and others in the process. The course will cover a variety of topics including psychological theory, developmental psychology, practical application of psychology, stress management, goal setting and mental illness.

 

JUNIOR SEMINAR - Junior Seminar is a required course for Juniors that combines the elements of American History and American Literature in order for students to gain a better appreciation of man’s role in engaging, influencing and creating the society in which he lives. The major periods of American History that will be covered are the Frontier, the industrial revolution, the 20th Century and beyond. Combining these two disciplines will provide the student with the opportunity to practice and refine the writing and research processes through research papers and essays concerning American Literature and the historical events, issues and perspectives.

 

AMERICAN GOVERNMENT - The course will cover the federal, state, county and city governments and the inter-working of each. The various branches of state and local government are examined as well as the nomination and election process.
