HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND RECREATION
Career Paths are:
INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, AND RECREATION - This course is required for all ninth grade students. The course will include classroom sessions and will cover topics such as health components, fitness and exercise concepts, nutritional values, body composition and weight control, goal setting, stress management, and consumer issues. In addition to the classroom activities, this course will provide activity sessions with an introduction to basic fundamental skills involved in various team and individual lifetime sports.
PHYSICAL FITNESS - This course is the most physically demanding course offered in the H.P.E.R. program. It is designed for students who are self-motivated and wish to participate in a program to develop their over-all physical fitness. Students will participate in various fitness activities including weight lifting, running, walking, and other aerobic activities. The course will also include lecture topics such as muscle composition and use, cardiovascular fitness, exercise program design, and lifetime fitness. The students will take part in a variety of fitness tests used to determine individual fitness levels and improvements. Can be taken before Intro. to Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
BODY WORKS - Aerobics will be an intense fitness class designed to improve CV endurance, increase muscular development and flexibility. The course will offer diverse types of aerobics; step (high and low intensity), low impact, toning, and funk. Students will receive instruction in strength training, with a strong emphasis in abdominal development. Various classroom lectures will take place covering such topics as eating disorders, proper weight loss and gain techniques, and benefits of being fit. Can be taken before Intro. to Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
LIFETIME SPORTS - (Prerequisite: Intro. to Health, PE) This course will include topics such as components of physical fitness, guidelines for exercise, principles of training, and designing your own fitness program. The course will also offer activities which are appropriate fitness and recreational activities now and later in life. Students will receive instruction and practice time in various individual and dual sports with the emphasis being placed on individual participation and improvement. Activities which may be offered include:
TEAM SPORTS - (Prerequisite: Intro. to Health, PE) This course will include topics such as flexibility, muscular fitness, fitness evaluation methods, and designing your own fitness program. The course will also consist of activities that are designed to teach and promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play. The class offers high level of activity and fitness through participation in many fast paced games. Students will receive instruction and practice time in the various team activities which may include:
