Career Paths are:
TRANSITIONS I - This two block course is designed for 9-12th grade students with moderate to severe needs. Its emphasis is to have students gain independence in various daily living skills such as: grocery shopping, cooking, personal health care, money management, interpersonal skills, and reading improvement (K-3).
TRANSITION II - This one block course is designed as a continuation of Transitions 1. Students will prepare for the transition to post high school life by working on things such as: contacting adult agencies as necessary, learning community resources, and communication skills.
FOCUS - This one block course is designed to assist moderate to severe needs students in meeting their unique goals and objectives in the areas of Interpersonal, Education, Living, and Career skills as indicated on their Individualized Educational Transitions Plan (IETP). It includes basic keyboarding skills.
BASIC SKILLS I - Open to 9th and 10th grade special education students. This combination of Math and English course is designed to provide students with functional math and writing skills as applied to everyday living. This course counts towards Math and English credit for students with an IETP.
BASIC SKILLS II - Open to 11th and 12th grade special needs students. This course combines Math with Language Arts. Math is a practical approach to teaching everyday skills such as taxes, banking, investing, and shopping for clothes. Language Arts emphasizes vocabulary development and improvement in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills needed in the work world. This course counts towards Math and English credit for students with an IETP. Students will also explore career interests.
READING IMPROVEMENT - Students will work on a number of reading-related activities to develop vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. Students are assessed at the beginning of the course and placed into the appropriate level for remediation of existing skills. Grade level 9 thru 12.
GENERAL STUDIES - This course is designed to meet individual students needs which are identified through their staffing and IETPs. The approach within this block is focused in functional academics in the areas of Science and History.
LIFE SKILLS - This two block course is designed for 9-12 graders who have difficulty functioning in a mainstream setting. These students will work on such skills as behavior modification, appropriate confrontation skills, self esteem, interpersonal skills, along with student skills, academic skills, and career exploration. Students may enroll for one block only with department approval. |
